Poem Contest

You remember I told you that my youngest Kim had written a poem for a "Reflections" contest at school. This year's theme was "Beauty is...."

She had forgot about the assignment and wrote this in less than five minutes. I am a mother, and I brag about my children all the time, but this was an extraordinary poem and so poignant. I am so proud of her for placing 2nd in the whole county.

This is the poem:

Beauty is....
Forever.

To be beautiful is
Having love for others,
Not caring about what others
Think of you.
Being yourself
And true.

Everyone has their own unique beauty,
No one is better than anyone.
We all shine in the light.
We are made of beauty and grace,
The bright eyes upon your face
Will fill this warm embrace.

Beauty is...
Forever.

This poem speaks volumes about what kind of child that I have raised and I couldn't be more proud of the young woman she has become.

I totally agree Mel...it shows both great maturity and a true understanding of what the important things in life are. You are so right to be proud xx

Thank you Diane. I love that I can hold an intellectually stimulating and thought provoking conversation with her. She is so intuitive it's scary sometimes. I don't know where she gets it from ;)

Beautifully done, Mel. Please give her my best and tell her to keep writing like that and she'll be poet laureate someday!

Thanks Kate. Her boyfriend is actually the poet laureate of their school.
