My oldest got an invitation in the mail from Lead America to attend a 10 day conference on Forensics in Ft Lauderdale, FL. this summer. They only send these out to kids with a good GPA and are involved in extra curricular activities at school. Her GPA is a 4.33 right now, I am SOOOO proud of her. She is taking AP Psychology this semester. She is the only sophomore with all seniors. If she gets a B or better she won't have to take this class in college. She is enjoying it so far.
Anyway, back to the conference. We are seriously considering sending her, despite the extreme tuition cost because this is a great opportunity. She wants to be a verterinarian, but her fall back/second choice career is Forensics.
She would be going with a girl who's the daughter of a lady I work with, so she wouldn't be flying down alone and the other girl's grandparents live 20 minutes away from the college they will be staying at, so they offered to pick them up at the airport and take them to the place.
They will be visiting the FBI field office and getting to do real stuff that CSI's do. I am jealous. I would love to do that.
Daddy is unsure about sending her 3 states away for 10 whole days, but we are going to have to let her go in two years when she goes off to college. (I'll be blubbering like a baby on that day, LOL). She's only flown in an airplane once, and she was with us, so she's a little nervous about that.
I'll be missing her like crazy, but I don't want to stop her from going and missing this great opportunity. We shall make a decision soon. The first deposit is due next month.
What do you guys think? Should we let our 16 year old go?
